.NET MAUI 8 in Practice: Potentials and Limits of Cross-Platform App Development

The Xamarin.Forms successor, .NET MAUI, represents Microsoft’s vision for cross-platform app development. It allows creating applications on a shared codebase for Android, iOS, macOS, and Windows. But how close does this framework come to its theoretical promise in practice? In this talk, we take a detailed look at .NET MAUI. We begin with a brief overview of .NET MAUI and then examine how cross-platform user interfaces are rendered on different target platforms. Along the way, we identify the areas where MAUI simplifies development as well as the challenges it presents. Additionally, we explore how platform-specific code can be integrated and review the new features and stability improvements introduced in version 8, released in November 2023.
